The Affiliation of Middle Level Professors of Education SIG of the Association of Teacher Educators has been in existence for several years. It has been an informal meeting of Middle Level Teacher Educators with a heart to discuss relevant issues concerning Middle Level Teacher Education programs. It became formalized as an arena for presentations of Middle Level Research in 2001. While the creation of the Middle Level SIG occurred as a result of collaboration among a group of middle level professors from across the nation, it has evolved from simply a time to meet with the ATE annual conference to a recognized associaton within the ATE.
The purposes of the organization are to:
Provide a professional network to enhance the exchange of information and ideas.
Encourage the discussion of topics related to the preparation of middle level educators.
Contribute to the development of an expanded middle level research base.
Actively serve as advocates for the middle school movement.
